Pre-University Department

Tomsk Polytechnic University has been performing pre-university training for international citizens since 1998.

The aim of the Department is to prepare international students for admission and studying within main educational programs in Russian and English at TPU and other Russian universities. The Pre-University department was established as a separate division  in 2002.

About our students

Every year about 200 students are trained within the programs of our Pre-University department, and 350 students from 30-35 foreign countries study at the courses.

Programs

1. Pre-University training for studies within main Bachelor and Specialist programs.

 Periods of study

      • 1 academic year (October 1 – June 30);
      • 1,5 academic year (March 1 – August 30 courses of Russian as a foreign language, October  01 – June 30 Pre-University program);

Fields of study

      • Technical (Russian, Mathematics, Physics, Computer Science, Engineering Graphics)
      • Economics (Russian, Mathematics, Computer Science, Social Studies, the History of Russia)
      • Humanities (Russian, Literature, the History of Russia, Social Studies, Linguistics and Regional Studies, Computer Science)
      • Biomedical (Russian, Chemistry, Physics, Biology, Mathematics, Anatomy)
      • Natural Science (Russian, Mathematics, Physics, Computer Science, Chemistry, Engineering Graphics)

 

2. Pre-University training for studies within main Master and PhD programs.

Periods of study

        • 1 academic year (October 1 – June 30);
        • 1,5 academic year (March 1 – August 30 courses of Russian as a foreign language, October  01 – June 30 Pre-University program);

Fields of study

        • Technical (Russian, Scientific Style of Speech, Special Mathematics, Special Information Technologies, Special Physics, Philosophy, Introduction to Master's Degree/PhD programs)
        • Economics (Russian, Scientific Style of Speech, Special Mathematics, Special Information Technologies, the History of Russia, Social Studies, Special Economics and Management, Philosophy, Introduction to Master'S Degree/PhD programs)
        • Natural Science (Russian, Special Mathematics, Special Information Technologies, Special Physics, Special Chemistry, Philosophy, Scientific Style of Speech, Introduction to Master's Degree/PhD programs)

 

3. Short-term programs (courses) in the Russian language, and core disciplines. The period of study and the program workload agreed upon the request. Winter and Summer schools. Internships.

Course programs:

      • Preparation for Test of Russian as a foreign language (А1-С1)
      • Russian as a foreign language: general proficiency
      • Russian as a foreign language: field proficiency 
      • Russian as a foreign language for special purposes 
      • Assistance courses of Russian as a foreign language and field disciplines 
      • Russian language and Culture (Winter and Summer schools «Siberian Holidays») 
      • Lecturer’s individual courses in Russian, Literature, Linguistics and Regional Studies, Culture, etc.

Instruction languages: Russian

Types of enrollment:

      • Commercial contract 
      • Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation (scholarship of the Government of the Russian Federation) 
      • Commercial studies on the terms of companies’ contracts

Upon successful completion of their studies students will receive

      • State certificate 
      • Reference of the study period (for those students who do not have final assessment)
      • TPU certificate (for short-term courses)

Necessary documents:

  • original document on previous education (school certificate of full secondary education, Bachelor/Master diplomas);
  • attachment with grades to the previous educational documents;
  • legalization of documents on previous education and attachment with grades;
  • copy of passport;
  • copy of visa;
  • medical certificate;
  • translations of educational documents certified by Russian notaries.
